Chuxi Tulou cluster, Longyan, Fujian

Updated: 2026-07-09 | China Bound

Nestled among lush mountains and forests, the Chuxi Tulou cluster in Fujian’s Longyan is a remarkable part of the UNESCO-listed Fujian Tulou. Built by the Xu clan from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) onward, these circular earthen homes were designed for both defense and community living. Together, they tell the enduring story of Hakka heritage and centuries of family tradition.
